t
SQL Server Agent. The SQL Server Agent retains the last DBMail setting that
was available when the Agent started. Since I had no DBMail the last time
SQL Server Agent had been started it did not care what I was doing with
DBMail until I started the Agent again and then it refreshed its information
and worked fine.
This means any changes to an existing configuration of DBMail will also
require a restart of SQL Server Agent otherwise the Agent will be using the
configuration that existed when it started last. I was hoping for more of a
dynamic communication between DBMail and SQL Server Agent but it is working
now for jobs and alerts so hooray.

Dbmail sending mails but recognised as spam by outlook07 and spamassasin.

Just started playing with the server 05 demo I am trying out the dbmail tool/ sp.

Problem is that mails are being recognised as spam!

Emails are being sent as text. Both Outlook 07 and spamassasin recognise the mail as spam :S....

I sent same info via outlok and all is ok. Difference is the header. Has anybody come across this? Know of a solution?

Thanks

I feel more to check on the Outlook side or from SPAMASSASIN tool.|||I'd say it was more likely to do with the header information that dbmail inputs.. A lot of data is missed out.. Bit of a coinsidence that its detected as spam twice..|||Have you added the dbmail account as Approved Sender in outlook?|||

Hi,

Please explain.

I was under the impression that dmail (unlike sqlmail) used smtp directly.

DBMail permission error

I am using DBMail to send an email notification at the completion of service broker process and have been getting the following security error:

Msg 229, Level 14, State 5, Procedure sp_send_dbmail, Line 1

EXECUTE permission denied on object 'sp_send_dbmail', database 'msdb', schema 'dbo'.

I have given the userID used to run the Service Broker, databasemailuserrole in msdb as per instruction in the msdb. I have also given it execute permission on the sp_send_dbmail but keep getting the error. The service broker is run using a sql login and the dbmail profile is set as public profile. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

One thing you can do to find additional information on this error is to connect SQL Profiler and run a trace while redoing these steps. When you'll get the permission failure in the trace, you should find additional information telling you what the execution context was at that time. This should help you determine if you have granted EXECUTE permission to the proper principal. If things look as you expected in the trace, take a look at the catalogs as well, to see what permissions are granted on sp_send_mail.

Thanks
Laurentiu

|||

By 'service broker process' I assume you mean an activate procedure. In this case what happens is that you are hitting the 'Extending Database Impersonation under EXECUTE AS context' issue. See this blog entry at http://blogs.msdn.com/remusrusanu/archive/2006/01/12/512085.aspx

The solution is to either sign the activated procedure or mark the database as trustworthy.

HTH,
~ Remus

|||

Remus,

For test purposes, I assign guest to DatabaseMailUserRole in the msdb and I was able to receive the email successfully.

Can you clarify on your blog statement: "sign the procedure with a server level certificate that has the proper rights needed for the operation in question".

What I did were as follows:

1. create certificate with AUTHORIZATION of the user ID that has sysadmin server role (for testing purpose) in the database of the activated sproc

2. add signature to the activated sproc using the newly created certificate

3. add user ID from #1 to msdb and assign DatabaseMailuserRole role

When I run the service broker job, it still resulted in the permission error. Do I miss any steps ?

Many Thanks,

Welly

|||

You have not granted permissions to the certificate. Here's an example that shows how to sign a stored procedure and how to assign permissions to the signing certificate:

http://blogs.msdn.com/lcris/archive/2005/06/15/429631.aspx

The owner (who you specified in the AUTHORIZATION clause) does not matter for signing purposes. In your scenario, you would need to grant EXECUTE on sp_send_dbmail.

Thanks
Laurentiu

DBMail in SQL 2005

Hi,
DBMail in SQL 2005 uses port 25. Is there way that could be changed or not?
Currently we block port 25 so am unable to use DBMail in SQL 2005
Thanks in advance......> DBMail in SQL 2005 uses port 25. Is there way that could be changed or

Yes, port 25 is only the default. You can change it when you set up an
account. Check the "Database Mail Accounts" topic in Books OnLine
(ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9/MS.SQLSVR.v9.en/udb9/html/7b758925-c59a-4015-92cb-0d4

Although I have never tried to change the default port...

dbmail doesn't rely on IIS SMTP, how to set bounced email redirect email etc.? thanks

Under IIS SMTP I can set bounced email redirect etc. how to do that with dbmail, the idea is I can get the list of bounced emails somewhere so I can create a report.

Any idea?

thanks

DB Mail sends to an SMTP server. You need to configure the SMTP server to return bounced emails.

Normally, this goes to "postmaster, sender" as a default.

|||

That makes sense, I just found I set dbmail profile to use relay server, which runs Kerio email, I guess it is Kerio SMTP which send out the email, then the setting need to be done on Kerio.

Thanks

dbmail custom header

Is it possible to add custom headers to email sent using dbmail?

I am using bcc to copy an email to a public folder to act as a record of sent emails. Outlook 2003 is displaying this as a post not an email so I can't see who the email was originally sent to.

I think this problem would be solved if I could add the following to the message header:

Code Snippet

Content-class: urn:content-classes:message

Thanks, Richard.

Unfornitually there isn't a way to do that with sp_send_dbmail.

dbMail

Is there a good source of information on the dbmail.
I was looking at the tables it uses and had some basic questions on
the table designs, when the tables are purged etc.

| | Is there a good source of information on the dbmail.
| | I was looking at the tables it uses and had some basic questions on
| | the table designs, when the tables are purged etc.

DBMail

Is it possible to embed a image datatype into a EMail message using sp_Send_DBMail?

For example, my query would select a saved print screen image held in a SQL table as datatype image. I would prefer not to attach this image but rather have it print in the message section.

Thanks in advance.Hopefully you mean xp_sendmail

Sends a message and a query result set attachment to the specified recipients.

Syntax
xp_sendmail {[@.recipients =] 'recipients [;...n]'}
[,[@.message =] 'message']
[,[@.query =] 'query']
[,[@.attachments =] 'attachments [;...n]']
[,[@.copy_recipients =] 'copy_recipients [;...n]'
[,[@.blind_copy_recipients =] 'blind_copy_recipients [;...n]'
[,[@.subject =] 'subject']
[,[@.type =] 'type']
[,[@.attach_results =] 'attach_value']
[,[@.no_output =] 'output_value']
[,[@.no_header =] 'header_value']
[,[@.width =] width]
[,[@.separator =] 'separator']
[,[@.echo_error =] 'echo_value']
[,[@.set_user =] 'user']
[,[@.dbuse =] 'database']

U Should be able to
[,[@.attachments =] 'attachments [;...n]']
easy enough

But to embed it as a BLOB into emails & not as an attachment is an interesting yet Scary Question

I Hope U are'nt a Spammer !!

lol

GW|||Why not use VB or ASP in this case to build the case and insert the messages in that form. You can blend sendmail with those programs too.
