Deadlock error(-2147467259) + SQL Server

Hello,
I have a window-less VB application running as a SQL server job.
The application is very simple and it just picks up the blob file from
filesystem and inserts into the database. I am using SQL Server 2000
running on Windows server 2003 standard edition.
Most of the time my application works fine, but sometimes the
following error is thrown and then and the application terminates.
"Transaction (Process ID 56) was deadlocked on lock resources with
another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the
transaction. Error Number : -2147467259."
I am unable to trace the problem. I have all the latest servicepacks
and updates installed on my system. Please help me on this.
Regards,
Anil K Gupta.Hi
There are a few chapters in the BOL about DEADLOCKs ,have you read them?

Sounds like your VB code needs error trapping IE On Error GoTo ...
OR
Inline error checking where you check Err.Number after every statement of
significance. A good method is On error goto ... for general code blocks
that could produce an error and to use the inline checking for lines where
you expect you may get an error and handle it there and then specifically.
EG.
sub MyUpdater()
dim ....
On error goto MU_Error
... general code.
... avoid zero divides as always
... prevent preventable errors as always
... now for somethin error prone
On error resume next
err= 0
rs.Update
if err <> 0 then
.. error handler specific to the above.
end if
On error goto MU_Error
...
...
Exit sub
MU_Error:
msgbox "Error:" & err.description
... possibly log the error to a disc file so you can add specific handlers
end sub

Deadlock : What the meaning of associatedObjectId

In 2005, when 1222 trace flag is activated, I get in the error log file, among other very useful informations, this kind of message
keylock hobtid=xxxxxxx dbid=XX indexname=...objectname=... id=lock13c50480 mode=S associatedObjectId=72057594039304192
or
pagelock fileid=X pageid=xxxx dbid=XX objectname=.... id=lock5f69480 mode=IX associatedObjectId=72057594378518528
What is the meaning of associatedObjectId?
It always starts with 72057594xxxxx and does not look like it is related to the locked object
In my case, OBJECT_NAME and OBJECT_ID did not return any relevant information
Thanks
Med
Hi
This should match a waitresource in the process list and in the waiter list,
you should also should also see that database id for this which is probably 2
ie tempdb.

I don't know if the associatedObjectId will help you any, although you do
have the dbid and the objectname to focus your attention. From the Books
Online article "Detecting and Ending Deadlocks"
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178104.aspx :
associatedObjectId. Represents the HoBT (heap or b-tree) ID.

Apparently there is other activitity on the server that your insert process
collides with. You should contact your DBA. If he already have enabled
deadlock tracing, you might be enable to identify the issue by checking
the error log.

Dead Lock Error in Replication

Hello All,
As I was going trough the log file generated (as a result of -Output <filepath> -OutputVerboseLevel 2). I saw some error lines which I would like to share:

DDL file to convert from mySQL to SQLServerXXX

We want to migrate a mySQL database to sql server 2000 or sql Server 2005. I have been given a DDL file to perform the conversion, but I don't know what to do with the file? Can anyone help me out? From what I can conclude, the DDL files is a script. So how do I run this script? Where do I place the file, before I run it?

Please help !

IF its a small file (with few tables/storedprocs/views..etc) I would go through the script to check for syntax errors. You could even to a "syntax check" from the query analyzer of SQL Server. Get the script fixed if there are any issues. Then create a database on SQL Server and compile the scripts against the DB.I believe there are SQL Server upgrade/migrate advisors. you can always google and check out any tips.|||

This is from archive file SQL7DBLIBSUPPORT.TXT
This is what I have read from Microsofts website also.
Q. Does SQL 7/2000 support DB-Library? What about 16-bit clients - DOS
etc.?
A. Yes it does, but DB-Library is functionally stabilised at the 6.5
level. Therefore if a DB-Library client on whatever platform worked
against a 6.5 database it should work against the same database migrated
to SQL 7.0/2000.
None of the SQL 7.0 features like unicode, character columns greater
than 255 characters etc. are in DB-Library though. So if you utilise
any SQL 7.0 features then these can only be accessed by ODBC 3.7 or
OLE-DB clients.
Similarly for 16-bit clients. These are supported, but only with the
6.5 levels of ODBC/DB-Library code. 16-bit clients cannot access new
SQL 7.0 features either.
The 16-bit client code is not supplied with 7.0/2000 - you will have to
get it from the 6.5 CD-ROM. This includes DOS and Win 3.x drivers.

 HI ALL
I m having my data in DBF file format. now i want to use my .Dbf files Data in to SQL Server 2000. so i can use SQL query on that and extract data from that. i want to use my DBF data in SQL. tell me how it is possible. plz give me soloution ...
Thanx

You might need to download the latest drivers for Foxpro/Dbf.
Thanks

RN|||When i import the data from Foxpro .dbf file to sql, there is error:

Insert error, Column 47 ('mrlvbd',DBType_DBTimeStamp),status 6: Data Overflow.

Then i found out that it might be because of the date field of the data is blank. What can i do to solve this?

Thanks in advance|||I have found the solution.

1 ) In the Select Source Dialog Box,select the Transform Button.

2) Change the Destination Datatype of the related field from SmallDateTime to DateTime

DBF to be attached in sqlserver2000/2005

Hi, Everybody

Please tell me the detailed procedure for having a *.DBF file attached to sqlserver 2000 or 2005.

I just want this file which is of visualfoxpro - DBF to be in sqlserver...........

thanks and regards,

Vishwanath.

Hey,

I don't believe SQL can import new database structures. You may, through DTS/SSIS, be able to copy the structure/data over, and that would create a SQL-compliant structure, depending on what was in the tables. I thought foxpro was more of an object-oriented database, which is not what SQL is...

|||

Hi Vishu

A lot depends on what you mean by "attached." You can use a linked server to access Fox data in SQL Server. You will need the FoxPro and Visual FoxPro OLE DB data provider, downloadable from a link at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vfoxpro/bb190232.aspx . If you have a DBC (Database Container) in the directory where the Fox tables are then point your connection string to it. Otherwise, use the "Free Table" option and just point the connection string to the directory where the DBFs are. When you select data from the linked server use code like Select MyField From MyLinkedServer...MyTableName without using ".dbf" on the end of the table name.

|||

Hi!

Visual FoxPro is both an ODBC/OLE DB compliant database and a fully object-oriented development tool. In addition to using DBFs (Fox tables) as the data store you can use an Access MDB or SQL Server. In either the case of SQL Server it would be used as a front end in the same way as VB or C#.

dbf in network location

I tried to connect my *.mdf (using path like this: \\Server\infotec.mdf) file to MSSQL EXpress 2005 engine using MSS Management Studio Express but I get message that attaching databases from network paths is impossible. Is there any possibility to do this?

thx, Tom

Attaching database files in a network location is not recommended. The reason being that SQL Server needs exclusive access to the files, and also needs to ensure that reads and writes are of sufficient speed. The reads and writes also need to follow guaranteed sequence. Very few network devices can satisfy these requirements.

Here's an article that describes the issue in great detail: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304261/en-us
