Deadlock question

I recently started seeing a new description in the deadlock event. Anyone
have any idea what the underlying issue might be?
"Parallel query worker thread was involved in a deadlock"
Thanks

Your query has been chosen to be be run in parallel, check out the topic
"Degree of Parallelism" in books online for more background.
From http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178104(SQL.90).aspx
"Coordinator, producer, or consumer threads associated with an exchange port
may block each other causing a deadlock usually when including at least one
other process that is not a part of the parallel query. Also, when a parallel
query starts execution, SQL Server determines the degree of parallelism, or
the number of worker threads, based upon the current workload. If the system
workload unexpectedly changes, for example, where new queries start running
on the server or the system runs out of worker threads, then a deadlock could
occur."
If you use the MAXDOP option to specify fewer processors you should not get
this, changing settings such as "cost threshold for parallelism" would affect
the whole system so it is probably not a great idea to change that.

Deadlock message

We are seeing deadlock message in the event viewer when

information is part of the event:

The transaction that deadlocks is an execute of a stored

Why is it deadlocked when they are 2 different rows in the

no indexes.
Please let me know if there is a way to find the cause of
the deadlock and how to resolve it.
Thanks
I am also seeing a deadlock message and trying to investigate the cause
of it.
In the past, I seem to recall being able to set the SQL Server logs so
that they record more information. It seems that these logs, if
detailed enough, should be able to provide clues.
Currently, all I see in the log is a record that my backups are being

of things, but I can't seem to find the opeions and settings for this

Deadlock isn't logging SQL statements

Hi,
I'm running SQL 2005 SP1 and we're getting some deadlocks. There is nothing
written to the event log. I've turned on 1204 and the log is showing the
deadlock however again, no SQL statements. I see this in the SQL Server log:
Log Viewer could not read information for this log entry. Cause: Data is
Null. This method or property cannot be called on Null values.. Content:.
I've also tried profiling deadlock and deadlock chain events and I can't get
the SQL still. Anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

ddl trigger question

I made a ddl trigger on database for event group which is

ddl_table_events.

The question is: can I know inside the trigger logic

(after "as" keyword)
which event type of this event group has fired the

trigger?

my code:

use AdventureWorks
go
create trigger

TableEvents
on database
for ddl_table_events
as
select * from

sys.trigger_events
go

I found nothing in sys.trigger_events has

changed inside the trigger.

So finally, I want to know which of "create

table" , "alter table" or "drop
table" has fired the trigger?

Please take a look at the EVENTDATA function. This returns the event that was fired, the command that raised the event and so on. See below topic for more details:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173781.aspx

DDL Trigger and drop table causes error

I have a DDL Trigger that writes a record into a table when any DDL event happens.

It works great except when I try dropping any object. I get an error at that point and the object is not dropped. The trigger and error are listed below.

Thanks.

DCOM Error, Event ID 10016, DTS Server

Hi all,
I have a new SQL Server 2005 Standard SP2 install with just database
services and workstation components installed.
I've noticed the following system event error that appears twice each
time a maintenance task runs (the maintenance tasks do run
successfully):
--
Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10016
Date: 20/12/2007
Time: 11:00:00
User: [domain sql agent account]
Computer: [server name]
Description:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch
permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{SID}
to the user [domain sql agent account] SID (SID). This security
permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative
tool.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
--
I've matched the CLSID given in the error to an entry an entry in the
registry that identifies Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Server.DtsServer. In
Component Services, there's a MsDtsServer listed under DCOM config.
Giving the domain sql agent account Local Launch access to this sorts
the error.
I'm a bit confused about this and am tempted to rebuild the server,
but would obviously like to avoid that if possible. I don't have SSIS
installed, so I don't understand why DTS is being used. I'd rather not
have an unnecessary service running, but I also don't want errors
showing up in the event log.
Any idea why this is happening? Does DTS need to be running even
though SSIS isn't installed? Any insight/suggestions are appreciated.

No, hadn't found that one. We are running SP2 on the W2K3 server, but
I gave that a go. I reveresed the changes I made earlier, tried the
changes suggested, but still get the error.
So is DTS required even though I don't have SSIS isn't installed? I
thought SSIS was the SQL Server 2005 replacement for DTS and that this
DTS Server was just a legacy naming thing but that it's actually SSIS.|||Hi
DTS is still the name behind the scenes.
I think Maintenance plans will use SSIS components, you could replace them
with the T-SQL scripts that do the equivalent tasks if you are using
Maintenance tasks.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10016
Date: 20/12/2007
Time: 11:00:00
User: [domain sql agent account]
Computer: [server name]
Description:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch
permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{SID}
to the user [domain sql agent account] SID (SID). This security
permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative
tool.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

JFBHi
This is not a SQL Server issue, you may want to post in a more appropriate
newsgroup.
