deadlock issue in sql server 2000 enterprise edition version 8.00.

we have installed sql server 2000 enterprise edition on our erp server.
We are facing frequent deadlock problem ie one process blocks the other
process frequently.
The compatibility of the databases has been set to 80.
First of all whether the version is that of enterprise edition ?
secondly any particular setting to resolve the deadlock issues ?To see what version you're on issue the following :-
SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('Edition')
This article may provide help with your deadlocking :-

I have seen the article on deadlock but any simpler way to handle it.
like a sp_configure statement

you can turn on to give you detailed information about the nature of your
deadlock :-
DBCC TRACEON (1204,3605,-1)
This will write deadlock information to the SQL Server Errorlog, which can
be read using sp_ReadErrorLog.

ddl statement is not allowed

Can someone help me with this.
I have installed the trail version of SQL Server 2005 on a 2003 server
box alongside an existing installation of SQL Server 2000. I can
connect to and create new databases but cannot create tables within the
database with create table statements. I get the error 'DDL statement
is not allowed'. MDAC is at version 2.82.1830.0
I have used the same installation executable to install the same trail
version of SQL server 2005 on a different XP box with no previous SQL
Server 2000 instance on it and everything works fine there.
I have searched high and low for meaningful information on what may be
causing this and how to fix it but with no success. Anyone have any
hints, tips, ideas and best of all a solution.
Thanks in advance
RobI would guess that you have a DDL trigger that prohibits this.

DCOM Error, Event ID 10016, DTS Server

Hi all,
I have a new SQL Server 2005 Standard SP2 install with just database
services and workstation components installed.
I've noticed the following system event error that appears twice each
time a maintenance task runs (the maintenance tasks do run
successfully):
--
Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10016
Date: 20/12/2007
Time: 11:00:00
User: [domain sql agent account]
Computer: [server name]
Description:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Launch
permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{SID}
to the user [domain sql agent account] SID (SID). This security
permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative
tool.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
--
I've matched the CLSID given in the error to an entry an entry in the
registry that identifies Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Server.DtsServer. In
Component Services, there's a MsDtsServer listed under DCOM config.
Giving the domain sql agent account Local Launch access to this sorts
the error.
I'm a bit confused about this and am tempted to rebuild the server,
but would obviously like to avoid that if possible. I don't have SSIS
installed, so I don't understand why DTS is being used. I'd rather not
have an unnecessary service running, but I also don't want errors
showing up in the event log.
Any idea why this is happening? Does DTS need to be running even
though SSIS isn't installed? Any insight/suggestions are appreciated.

No, hadn't found that one. We are running SP2 on the W2K3 server, but
I gave that a go. I reveresed the changes I made earlier, tried the

So is DTS required even though I don't have SSIS isn't installed? I

DTS Server was just a legacy naming thing but that it's actually SSIS.|||Hi
DTS is still the name behind the scenes.
I think Maintenance plans will use SSIS components, you could replace them
with the T-SQL scripts that do the equivalent tasks if you are using

DCOM error

I just installed sql server 2005 on a windows 2003 server. I chose the option to install but do not configure. After restarting, I used the Reporting SErvices Configuration Manager and it all looks ok. When I browse to //localhost/reports I get a rs page with the message of:

The request failed with HTTP status 400: Bad Request.

One slightly unusual thing is SQL Server 2005 was installed as a named instance ("(local)\SQL2K5") - the server's default instance is a sql 2000 installation, which had RS installed and running. Before configuring RS for 2k5, I deleted the VDs for Reports and ReportServer from IIS, so that I could recreate them to use 2K5.

The new ReportServer VD appears to work (although no reports are installed to test).

Thanks for any help getting this issue resolved!

I have a bunch of these in Application Log... I have a feeling it's related.. I don't know what it means though
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

I'm not sure the applog error that you're catching is related, so let's try to fix it and then see if the original problem goes away (I suspect it won't):

1. Click Start | Run and run dcomcnfg.exe

2. In MMC, open Component Services | My Computer

3. Right-click My Computer, choose Properties, select the COM Security tab. Click on the edit default button in Launch permissions options area

4. Add network service and give it appropriate perms (Local Launch and Local Activation permissions)

If that doesn't do the trick:

1. Start DCOMCNFG

2. Under Component Services -> My Computer -> Dcom Config -> Netman click
Properties, then Security tab

3. In Launch and Activation Permissions box click Edit.

4. Add Network Service with Local Launch and Local Activation permissions

Good luck!|||Nope... you were right - neither worked.

I have since created 2 new VDs - Reports2K5 and ReportServer2k5, which correspond to my instance of SQL SErver 2005. The REportServer2K5 appears to be working OK... Reports2K5 (manager) still gives me the 400 error.
Would this error be logged anywhere?

Thanks for your help.|||Big Smile The site (Default web site) was using a specific IP address.. I changed it to All Unassigned and it works!

|||Good catch!|||Is there a way to configure SQL 2005 Reporting Services using an IIS Website with a specific IP?|||

I'm getting the same event error:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}
to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

I went into Component Services and Netman has local launch permissions and can find no reference for "Network Connection Manager Class" (the name the ID translates to based upon registry lookup). What in Component Services should I be looking for and where? This is a brand new installation of 2003 Server Professional w/ Exchange 2003 and all the latest service packs/patches. Thanks,

John

Had very similar on 4 servers, all using unassigned , but they all had host headers specified. Short summary below to explain.

Each server had three web sites all bound to unassigned ip address, using host headers and diffrent ssl ports to separate ou the traffic.

Report server had previously been working ok until the final site config when the host headers were implemented.

As one site could act as a default then the problem was resolved by adding an additional binding for port 80 with no header specified.

All boxes running fine now.

The origonal posting pointed me in the right direction and as I was also implmenting http endpoints in SQL , I could have spent awhile on red herings. Much thanks.

I believe this errors can be fixed by the following 899965

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=899965

|||

had a similar problem and found out the following:

If you want to run Reporting Services under a different port than normal, you have to change these two config files:
rsreportserver.config
and
RSWebApplication.config

Enter the full path (like http://servername:port/ReportServer) to <ReportServerUrl> (delete <ReportServerVirtualDirectory> then!) or resp. <UrlRoot>

The result is then
<Configuration>
<UI>
<ReportServerUrl>http://mbs05:8088/reportserver</ReportServerUrl>
<ReportServerVirtualDirectory></ReportServerVirtualDirectory>
<ReportBuilderTrustLevel>FullTrust</ReportBuilderTrustLevel>
</UI>
.....

and

<Configuration>
... <Service>
....
<MaxQueueThreads>0</MaxQueueThreads>
<UrlRoot>http://mbs05:8088/reportserver</UrlRoot>
<UnattendedExecutionAccount>
...

Hope this helps,
Martin

|||Just a blank host header for a site that has an assigned IP. Work on three different boxes for me.|||Same for me. I moved Reporting Services to it's own website (because sharepoint installed it's own ISAPI filter on the default website that was totally screwing up RS), and set a host header for the new site. Every time I turned off the default website, RS would break, even though it should have nothing to do with it.
I switched the host headers around (so the default website has host headers, and the RS website doesn't) now it works perfectly.

Folks,

I'm trying to resolve the same error but having a bit of trouble following through the instructions in the KB.

If one of you could please set me right it would be much appreciated.

Firstly, the error I'm getting in the event log is as follows:

"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID

{BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}

to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."

So I go to the regedit and look it up.
I search for BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E
And Regedit duly comes up with:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}

Which identifies this as the "Network Connection Manager Class"

Allright..now the KB article then tells me to :

4. Click Start, click Run, type dcomcnfg in the Open box, and then click OK.

If a Windows Security Alert message prompts you to keep blocking the Microsoft Management Console program, click to unblock the program. 5. In Component Services, double-click Component Services, double-click Computers, double-click My Computer, and then click DCOM Config. 6. In the details pane, locate the program by using the friendly name.

If the AppGUID identifier is listed instead of the friendly name, locate the program by using this identifier.

And this is where I'm stuck.. cos there is nothing there that corresponds to a Network Connection Manager Class or to the CLSID... (is that what they mean in the doc when they refere to AppGUID ?)

So, I can't continue on with the fix.. because I can't find the right app to fix the launch and activation permissions for....

I'd really appreciate a bit of help on this one...

Thanks

1. Start DCOMCNFG

2. Under Component Services -> My Computer -> Dcom Config -> Netman click
Properties, then Security tab

3. In Launch and Activation Permissions box click Edit.

4. Add Network Service with Local Launch and Local Activation permissions

Good luck!

So I go to the regedit and look it up.
I search for BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E
And Regedit duly comes up with:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{BA126AD1-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E}

I have created a login called john and this login has a default
database mydb (sp_addlogin)
On this default database, i have granted the Access to this login
(sp_grantdbaccess)
a new application has created a new database newdb and, for
differents reasons, the program has created again the john login
(same name)
Now, I can Access with this login to the database newdb but no more
to the default one mydb .
When I say i can Access... that means :
Select * from toto is working on newdb
(I dont need to write Select * from john.toto)
But with mydb ,
Select * from toto does not work,
I need to write the select this way : Select * from john.toto
Since I use an application, I cannot change the sql statement
since john is "dbowner" and has a defaut db "mydb", this is strange
When I read master.dbo.sysusers, the user john has a complexe SID
( 0x93F921DB3... )
When i read master.dbo.sysdatabases :
The new database newdb has the same complexe SID ( 0x93F921DB3...
)
The old database mydb has lost the SID witch is replaced with 0x01
The table toto has the correct UID that is john in sysusers table
How can I reset "john" owner on all tables from mydb
many thanks
nicolasIt looks like someone has changed the owner of the old database to be sa
(sid = 0x01). You can execute sp_changedbowner to reset the database owner
to be John.
See
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...>
cz_30s2.asp,
for more information on sp_changedbowner.

I try the command but sql server say :
Server: Msg 15110, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_changedbowner, Line 47
The proposed new database owner is already a user in the database
I'm connected with the sa account into the default database of the owner

owned by that temp login. Then change the database to be
owned by John and drop the temp login. Something like:
use YourDatabase
go
exec sp_addlogin 'TempLogin'
exec sp_changedbowner 'TempLogin'
exec sp_changedbowner 'John'
exec sp_droplogin 'TempLogin'

"John", then it means that while the owner was sa, a user was already
created for John in the database. If you now want to make John the database
owner, you should remove that user:
sp_dropuser 'John'
and then you should be able to call
sp_changedbowner 'John'
There is a catch: if 'John' owns objects in the database, you cannot drop
him, so you will have to change the ownership of those objects to someone
else first, by using sp_changeobjectowner.

sue and Laurentiu,
many thanks for your help
The solution was here
I created a new login, changeobjectowner for each database tables from
old user, delete and create again the old login, changeobjectowner back to
the old user all objects
now, it is correct
again, many thanks for your answers.
